The Risks of Depo-Provera

When it comes to effectiveness Depo-Provera is quite useful as a contraceptive and an estimated 3 out of every 100 women will get pregnant whilst using Depo-Provera. However, women who use it regularly for a period of time will considerably lower their risk of getting pregnant.

There are some risks of using Depo-Provera which include the following:

  • You may have a delay in getting fertile again
  • It doesn’t provide you with protection against sexually transmitted diseases
  • There is a potential for loss of bone mineral density

Due to the risks of Depo-Provera the FDA has cautioned against using Depo-Provera for more than 2 years.
