How Birth Control Pills Work

Birth control pills are basically artificial forms of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. They are incredibly consistent at maintaining hormone levels and preventing ovulation in the body. If the estrogen in the body is not peaking, it will prevent the ovary from releasing an egg. This means that the possibility of pregnancy and fertilization is non-existent.

The birth control pill makes the cervical mucus thick, which prevents the sperm from reaching the egg. It also ensures that the lining of the uterus is unreceptive for the implantation of a fertilized egg and therefore it prevents any chance of pregnancy.
